Magdalene Ho, a world-renowned Malaysian classical pianist and winner of the 2023 Clara Haskil International Piano Competition, and fellow Malaysian cellist prodigy Sinjo Yap, came together for their first performance back home since their professional careers began – a celebration of collaboration, shared roots and giving back through music.
Facilitated through TalentCorp’s MyHeart platform, it reflects how Malaysians abroad can reconnect by sharing their expertise, inspiring future generations and creating meaningful impact at home.
Magdalene Ho & Friends: Piano & Chamber Recital
The performance “Magdalene Ho & Friends: Piano & Chamber Recital,” took place on 19 July 2026 at UCSI University Recital Hall in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. The recital brought together the dramatic and emotionally intense repertoire of Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 101 and the contrasting warmth and beauty of Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat Major, D. 898. Together, the audience experienced a unique blend of perspectives that took them on an emotional journey to remember.
Before the recital, Magdalene also hosted a lecture-recital at the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) on 17 July 2026, where she shared her valuable insights into the world of classical music and the artistic process of creating live performances that captivate audiences – a quieter, more intimate session in stark contrast to the later performance.
Magdalene spent time with students, educators and aspiring musicians, offering a rare glimpse into the discipline and preparation behind professional classical performances, inspiring the next generation of Malaysian musicians.
The show must go on – the challenges of putting on a good performance.
No matter the challenges faced beyond the stage, performers have the remarkable ability to persevere and deliver a wonderful show nonetheless; a philosophy perfectly encapsulated by the famous saying: “The show must go on.” Sinjo remarks that leading up to the show, the performers had less time to rehearse together than usual, which is key to building on-stage chemistry, especially considering the two had never performed together before. Despite the challenge, the concert went off smoothly.
The generosity Magdalene and Sinjo demonstrated by bringing their musical knowledge and expertise back home as accomplished musicians with global careers embodies the essence of MyHeart’s mission. While the recital may have lasted only one evening, its impact extended far beyond the concert hall. Students gained valuable insights from internationally recognised Malaysian musicians and audiences experienced performances of the highest calibre.
As for Magdalene and Sinjo, their connection with home only grows deeper. After reflecting, Magdalene expresses her thoughts on the experience with gratitude:
